The ISCE Doctoral School (ED ISCE) is a thematic doctoral school in the Grenoble region (including Chambéry and Valence). It is one of the 13 doctoral schools of the Doctoral College of the University Grenoble Alpes.
The ED ISCE trains doctoral students in data acquisition, processing and modelling engineering with a view to elucidating the mechanisms involved in the major functions of living systems: relationship with their environment, cognition (perception and decision), action (control and effect).
Created in 1995, EDISCE offers the advantage of integrating research teams working in different disciplinary sectors and structured around five main themes.
The ED ISCE aims to train students with a profile comparable to that of the bio-engineering and cognitive science departments of the major North American academic technology centres (MIT, Virginia Tech, etc.), in order to supply teachers-researchers, engineers, researchers, etc., to companies in information processing engineering for life, human-computer interaction, cognitive technologies, biotechnologies, etc:
- companies in information processing engineering for life, man-machine interaction, cognitive technologies, biotechnologies, etc.
- the more traditional pharmaceutical or instrumental companies,
- hospitals and clinics (psychologists, biomedical engineers, researchers),
- universities and large public institutions for fundamental and applied research (CNRS, INSERM, INRA, INRIA, etc.).
The doctoral school wants its students to acquire a dual culture:
- from disciplines with a strong formalism, such as mathematics and computer science,
- from disciplines with a strong experimental and clinical basis, such as cognitive sciences and life and health sciences.
4 Masters with a total of 12 research specialities are attached to the ED ISCE.
The ED ISCE is distinguished by its multidisciplinarity: it has many interfaces at the laboratory level.
It calls upon a vast scientific field organised into 5 major themes which constitute the thesis specialities of the ED ISCE.
It contributes to the training of doctoral students, provides them with follow-up and ensures that the doctoral charter is respected. It helps with the professional integration of doctoral students.
It is assisted by a Council and managed by a pedagogical Bureau.
